Originally known as Decoration Day in the years following the Civil War, what we now know as Memorial Day became a profound holiday and means to honor all those who had lost their lives in the War Between the States – more lives than any other conflict in U.S. history. The springtime tribute featured visits to cemeteries in order to decorate the graves of those who had fought bravely. Today, this holiday honors all men and women who have served in our military and fallen.
